The movie is another take on Cinderella.
Bikin Yar Gata is about how a much-loved daughter of a rich man marries her brother-in-law despite the antagonism from her stepmother.
Ummi (Fadila Mohammed) is a pampered child, who lives with her step-sister Halima (Halima Atete) and Halima’s husband Yakubu (Yakubu Mohammed). As a result of Halima’s mother’s meddling, the couple decides to get a divorce.
Yakubu is a business partner to Alhaji (Tanimu Akawu), Ummi, and Halima’s father. Alhaji not wanting to lose his relationship with his partner offers his second daughter in marriage to Yakubu. This does not sit well with Hajiya (Hadiza Mohammed), Halima’s mother; thus setting the course for the movie.
The story is a kind of retelling of the classic fairytale, Cinderella. However, from the choice of location to the directing, everything seemed a flop.
Based on the quality of actors in the movie, the storyline and other production aspects could have been done better. The location chosen did not suit the wealth and affluence of the major characters.
The lack of continuity from one scene to the other, which also includes the flow of dialogue between the actors, was also one of the movie’s great failings. Corresponding inserts were wrongly placed and background sound proved to be a distraction at some points in the movie.
Bikin Yar Gata was poorly produced compared to other recent movies from Kannywood. I would advise a potential viewer to watch it for “watching sake.” -Review by Mohammed Lere of The Premium Times, Nigeria
